Selebtrities es un trio de Brooklyn conformado por Max Peterson, Jer Robert y la hermosa voz de Maria Usbeck. Después de un par de EPs, sacaron su álbum debut Delusions en el sello Cascine el año pasado. Su sonido es bastante característico ya que combinan una especie de pop gótico con new wave, y el resultado es impecable. Pero una rola (y un video) vale más que mil palabras, así que aquí dejo su nuevo sencillo “Night Heat” que saldrá el próximo 20 de marzo en un hermoso vinil de 7”.

Hace un par de meses, mientras vagaba por la web en búsqueda de nuevas melodías, tuve la fortuna de encontrar el Year of Hibernation (2011), álbum debut del joven músico estadounidense Trevor Powers, mejor conocido como Youth Lagoon. Clasificado como “dream pop” (y precisamente se distingue por su carácter onírico), no pasó mucho tiempo para que blogs importantes posaran su atención en él y comenzara a propagarse en los oídos de miles de fanáticos de la música independiente. Aunque no sabemos mucho acerca de la identidad de Youth Lagoon, el álbum habla por si mismo. Cautivante, inspirador, dulce y enérgico, atrapa inmediatamente con tonadas ligeras, evocando memorias placenteras y generando una atmósfera positiva. La verdad es que conserva su cualidad ambiental, al mismo tiempo que ofrece sonidos sintéticos que rayan en el romance y se complementan con agilidad. Este es el tipo de disco que no vas a dejar de escuchar durante un tiempo. Apto para cualquier oído, no dudamos que en pocos meses esté sonando por aquí y por allá, volviéndose parte de los favoritos de curiosos de todo tipo.

Hace casi un año conocí a Plastic Plates en uno de esos mixes mensuales que hace Aeroplane, con un remix a la hoy amada Adele, que ayer se llevó como 200 Grammys a su casa, recuerdo que al escuchar el remix de “Fire to the Rain” no tenía la mínima idea de quien era esa tremenda voz.

Aunque es fácil irse con la finta de que Plastic Plates se trata de una agrupación, es una sola persona: Felix Bloxsom, un chico de Sidney Australia, que en su adolescencia recibió varios premios por tocar la batería como los dioses, entre esos está el ‘Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year’ en 2004.

Como era de esperarse el mainstream se fijo en él y es por ello que decide mudarse a L.A. para comenzar a trabajar con en studio y en stage, para tremendos proyectos que incluyen: Empire of The Sun, Christina Aguilera, J.Lo, Sneaky Sound System, Kelly Clarkson, The Presets y faltan muchos, pero creo que ya con eso.

Supongo que Plastic PLates para Felix tiene un significado diferente al trabajo (aunque si checan sus tour dates están con todo), me suena a que fue hecho en un mood muy suave, además de permitir la descarga libre de casi todo su trabajo.

Niki & The Dove

Sin lugar a duda Niki & the Dove es uno de los actos a los que les tenemos que echar el ojo este 2012. El proyecto conformado por Gustaf Karlöf y Malin Dahlström empezó a hacer música en el 2010 año en el que salió su primer sencillo “DJ, Ease My Mind/Under The Bridges” bajo el sello inglés Moshi Moshi. El año pasado el dúo sueco nos regaló dos excelentes EPs y firmaron con el legendario sello Sub Pop con el que sacarán su álbum debut este año. El primer sencillo de este nuevo álbum es una versión más pulida de “DJ, Ease My Mind”.

Además de habernos conquistado; los españoles son chingones por su cultura musical. Gracias al “tontipop”, género concebido por los ibéricos hace ya algunos años, han logrado reconquistarnos de nuevo con su meloso, feliz, amistoso, divertido, versátil y romántico, muy romántico género.

En repetidas ocasiones hemos publicado en syntheticrocks bellos posts sobre el género y artistas involucrados en él, como lo son: La Casa Azul, Serpentina, La Buena Vida, Cola Jet Set, Single, Le Mans, Corazón, entre otros muchos más.

Hoy, gracias a que Le Touch nos brindó la oportunidad de participar con ellos, y sobre todo por “amor al arte”, difrazado de “me encanta compartir música”, estamos aquí.

Así que comenzamos con la canción más bailable de nuestro playlist: Tus cosas buenas, by Joe Crepúsculo, un ser humano extravagante, en exceso inteligente, y con un sentido muy oportuno a la hora de producir sus obras, tal es el caso de su última producción; Nuevo Ritmo.

En segundo lugar mi más entrañable proyecto español, con quien he crecido y vivido por lo menos mis últimos 7 años de vida “adolescente”. La Casa Azul, engendrado por el multiproductor Guille Milkyway, quien también participara en proyectos como Cola Jet Set, La Monja Enana etcétera, etcétra. Él, más que nadie, ¡me mama! Y es que en sus producciones puedes hallar letras tristes disfrazadas de melodías felices; he ahí la inmortalidad del ser humano hecho música.

El tercer lugar, algo que me ha encantado. Es una banda no tan nueva, pero con harto talento. La canción que les presento a continuación me evocac a aquel I Want The World To Stop y por ello me atrevo a decirles los Belle & Sebastian de España.

La Buena Vida es más que un clásico en España, quizá lo más cercano a considerarse patrimonio de la humanidad justo en ese país, junto a Le mans y por qué no, Single también. “Qué nos va a pasar” es un himno personal, me lo he adjudicado años atrás, y es que es una maravilla, además de mostrar una de las mil caras del aclamado cuarteto.
